Reception for Extraordinary Elsewhere

Saturday, August 23, 1:00 - 5:00 PM | Free

The event will feature an interactive tour of the gallery with Curator Zoe Cinel and the exhibiting artists Peng Wu, Dahn Gim, Ivonne Yáñez, Mayumi Amada, Prima Jalichandra - Sakuntabhai, Shafrin Islam.

After the tour, experience a solo performance by Rituparna Rana, expanding on themes from her video piece Rooted in Motion, which is featured in the exhibition. Bhromi: Rooted in Motion. Derived from the Bengali word for “wanderer” or “nomad,” this performance explores how a migrant artist locates “home” not in place, but in movement and in her dance. Drawing from Indian classical dance traditions and shaped by lived experiences across geographies, this piece embodies how art becomes both sanctuary and compass. As Rana moves through unfamiliar landscapes, it is the rhythm, discipline, and memory of her art form that sustains and anchors her.

In addition to the tour and performance, enjoy refreshments and engage in hands-on art activities for all ages. Exhibiting artist Ivonne Yáñez will lead an art activity in the studio classroom from 2 - 3:30pm. This event promises to be a rich exploration of global narratives and artistic expression—an afternoon not to be missed!
