Marketing Assistant

This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain and distribute information for online calendars and print publications
  • Manage the creation and distribution of the art center’s weekly e-newsletter
  • Manage the art center’s various social media profiles (Facebook, twitter, YouTube, Linkedin, Flickr)
  • Distribute monthly updates to local hospitality staff
  • Collect and organize contact information from program participants, contest entrants, etc…
  • Prepare materials for and assist with off-site marketing opportunities such as booths or fairs
  • Locate, record, and archive all published press, features, or listings on Rochester Art Center
  • Attend marketing committee meetings as needed

Required skills:

  • At least two years of experience in marketing-related fields
  • Strong communication skills – verbal and written
  • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and solution-oriented
  • Ability to work under little or no supervision
  • Self-motivated with good organization skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications
  • Basic understanding of common social media platforms
  • Experience with online database management

Preferred skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing or communications
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Experience in the field of visual arts

Visitor Experience Associate

The Visitor Experience Associate (VXA) plays a vital role at the Rochester Art Center. This position orients all visitors to the Art Center and Gallery Shop while providing opportunities for further engagement with the exhibitions and contemporary art. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities

• Provide a professional and welcoming environment for every visitor/customer.
• Open and close the Desk, Galleries, and Gallery Shop as scheduled.
• Oversee the security of the Desk, Galleries and Gallery Shop.
• Handle and process all cash and/or charges of the Desk and Shop.
• Provide daily reports on cash, receipts and/or charges.
• Provide daily report on attendance, facility usage, and/or demographic data.
• Assist with display of merchandise.
• Replenish and stock merchandise and supplies.
• Handle all kinds of promotional events/sales.
• Maintain the cleanliness, tidiness and organization of the Galleries, Desk, and Shop.
• Help with various projects based on departmental needs and VXA availability.
• Perform custodial and facility duties such as sweeping, light mopping, replenishing of paper goods in restrooms, trash removal and occasional snow shoveling.
• Participate in regular in-service training on exhibitions and related material.
• Be knowledgeable about current and upcoming exhibitions and serve as a resource for visitors.
• Actively engage with visitors to further their understanding and appreciation of the exhibitions.
• Acquaint visitors with technology and other resources available for an integrated museum experience.
• Cover registration, security or other posts during special events.

Supervision

The VXA reports to the manager on duty, depending on the type of shift you are working. The Visitor Services Manager will oversee all operations at the front desk; the Event Manager will oversee rental events; the Public Programs Director will oversee Art Center events. All VXA scheduling will be coordinated by the Visitor Services Manager.

Schedule

Business Hour VXAs:
Wednesday, Friday & Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; Thursdays 10 am to 9 pm; and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 pm.

Event VXAs:
This position requires a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and occasionally early morning shifts. All staff members are required to work during the Art Center’s two major fundraising events and quarterly exhibition openings; specific dates are available from the Visitor Services Manager.

Wage

$9/hour

Event Liaison

Description

The Event Liaison (EL) plays a vital role in events at the Rochester Art Center. This position assists clients and caterer with set up, facility, sound system and other needs during the event time. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities
• Provide a professional and welcoming environment for event clients and guests.
• Serve as primary contact for clients and caterers during events.
• Enforce policies such as no outside food or beverages, no children above the main floor without an adult etc.
• Inspect kitchen with caterer pre and post event – prepare kitchen checklist and kitchen usage report. Give catering fee summary to caterer and make copies as necessary.
• Update the Banquet Event Order and make notes about how the event went.
• Assist with client set up and sound system as needed.
• Take photographs of event for RAC documentation and usage.
• Custodial and facility duties: sweeping, light mopping, moving chairs and tables, event set up and tear down, as well as occasionally removing trash to the dumpster, and snow shoveling before guests arrive for an event.
• Maintain security of facility.
• Participate in in-service training and professional development as required.
• To enhance our guests experience, it is strongly preferred that you attend the detailing meeting 30 days prior to the event, for those events that you are scheduled.

Job Skills

• Experience in event coordination, banquet serving and customer service preferred.

Total Arts Day Camp

Total Arts Day Camp will enter its 41st year as the longest running education program at the Rochester Art Center. Students are invited to enroll in a unique contemporary art experience that is designed to simulate a working artists’ studio. Students work individually and collaboratively to create both traditional and experimental art work. They will explore concepts in; drawing, typography, painting, sound, video, animation, set design, environmental installation, photography and much more. Each project is supplemented with theory, hands-on instruction and relevant art historical examples. Students will also have the opportunity to work with visiting artists, creating specialized projects and learning about professional careers in the arts. The focus of the camp is to introduce young people to creative problem solving and experience working with a wide range of artistic techniques, all in a fun environment. The camp will conclude with a showcase of projects completed for friends and family on the last day of each session.

Each session of camp runs for two weeks, Monday – Friday, 9:30 – 3:00 pm. A series of five sessions start Monday, June 11th and run through Friday, August 17th. Rochester Art Center is seeking lead and assistant instructors for sessions 1-5 and visiting artists with 2-day project proposals, working in any medium, for sessions 1 –5. Also, seeking applicants to intern for all 5 sessions.

Salary: dependant on experience, length of session taught and position.

Position Requirements

All applicants should have a strong background in the visual arts. A knowledge of contemporary art and new media is desired. The ability to work with children and young adults is an obvious must. Teaching certification is not required. Lead instructor applicants should have a masters degree in art education or studio art, or currently enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application. Assistant instructors should have an undergraduate degree in art education or studio art, or currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of application. Visiting artists should have a demonstrated ability within a specific medium. All instructors/visiting artists are responsible for designing and implementing the class projects.
