chris deo: the easy way where everything is dead
emerging aritst series: third floor atrium gallery
october 12 - december 31, 2006
In his two nearly identical ink drawings, Minneapolis artist Chris Deo combines representational and abstract imagery in a map-like form which is both technically skillful and inherently obsessive. Through closer observation, Deo’s imagery reflects his interest in art historical and cultural iconography. One drawing (we do not know which) is the original from which the other drawing was duplicated by hand. Deo’s attentive and disciplined technique becomes an example of the power of the idea of an original object, as well as a critique of drawing as a conclusive act.
