Notions of “place” are a common thread running throughout the work of artist Caroline Kent. Romanian Palimpsest is a commemoration of the artists’ relationship to the country of Romania, which amalgamates the country’s architectural landscape, language, and culture into condensed forms that resemble large alphabet-like shapes and symbols. Following an artist in residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland, her current work examines and deconstructs the peculiarity of Iceland’s rugged and prodigious landscape.
Born and raised in Sterling, Illinois, Caroline Kent holds a BS in Art from Illinois State University, 1993, and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Minnesota. From 2000-2002 Caroline served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Alba Iulia, Romania. Caroline has taught Drawing in the Art Department at the University of Minnesota, and teaches Painting in the continuing education department at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Caroline Kent is a recipient of the Jerome Foundation Fellowship 2009-10.
