mary griep: anastylosis
se mn artist series: accent gallery
january 19 - march 4, 2007
In this series of work, Mary Griep has taken on an impressive challenge: recreating the experience of three dimensions in two dimensions. Not intended to be architectural plans or architectural documentation of historical buildings, Griep’s collaged drawings and paintings represent her sensory perceptions and emotional memories of some of the world’s most revered sacred spaces.
Mary Griep is an Associate Professor of Art at St. Olaf College. She received a BA with Honors from Macalester College and an MA from Hamline University. Griep has been awarded grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and many prestigious national and international fellowships and residencies. Her work is in corporate and institutional colections throughout the United States.
