ARTBASH 2013: THE SILVER FACTORY
Friday, October 4, 2013 | 6:00 pm | Rochester Art Center
On Friday, October 4, to celebrate how Rochester Art Center supports innovation in artistic achievement through our programs and on the occasion of receiving our first-ever funding from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, ARTBASH 2013 will highlight Andy Warhol’s legendary New York City studio, art production, and parties famously held in his Silver Factory.
ARTBASH directly funds Exhibitions featuring major national & international contemporary artists, emerging Minnesota artists, and local Rochester artists | Art Education Programs such as Free Family Day, Free Thursdays, Total Arts Day Camp, School Tours, and Tastes Like Paint – Rochester’s only after school visual arts program for teens | Collaborations with Rochester Public Schools and nonprofits that serve the needs of Rochester’s underserved communities | Public Programs like Distinguished Lecturer Series, (K)NOW: Conversations in Contemporary Art & Life, and Artist Lectures
& Gallery Talks.
For their first-ever major Rochester fundraiser, the creative culinary team at Pescara is creating an innovative spread of artistic, sumptuous Hors d’oeuvres & Libations including fine wine, craft beer, and a signature cocktail. ARTBASH will be an elegant and ambient gathering, an experience not to be missed.
Along with our Silver Factory theme and environment, we have invited an impressive group of artists to contribute to our first national auction. Curated by Shannon Fitzgerald, RAC’s Executive Director and Kris Douglas, Chief Curator the auction includes impressive work by 28 regional, national, and international artists who have exhibited at RAC or will be in our upcoming season. Run by the New York City auction house, Paddle8, auction bidding will begin one month before the event and continue through ARTBASH night using on-site iPad kiosks. The 28 artists are:
Tara Najd Ahmadi, Barry Anderson, Anna Boyer, Miguel Calderón, Tim Eitel, John Fleischer, Isa Gagarin, John Gossage, James Henkel, Nicole Havekost, Simon Huelsbeck, Caroline Kent, Rachel Khedoori, Chris Larson, David Lefkowitz, Warren MacKenzie, Andy Messerschmidt, Liz Miller, Clarence Morgan, Jessica Ashley Nelson, Judy Onofrio, Jehra Patrick, Lamar Peterson, Chiharu Shiota, Binod Shrestha, Roman Signer, Suzanne Szucs, and Bruce Tapola.
ARTBASH 2013 will introduce a screening of Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, a series of silent film portraits consisting of several-minute unbroken shots of Factory regulars including Warhol superstars, celebrities, guests, friends, or anyone he thought had “star potential.” To further highlight The Silver Factory theme, RAC is producing our own 16mm, black and white film, Rochester Screen Tests featuring Rochester artists, patrons, and community-leaders.
We invite you to try out your “star potential” as we turn our ANEX space into a film studio where one-minute shoots will capture quick, silent individual portraits−creating a visual moving portrait of Rochester. Rochester Screen Tests will be recorded at Rochester Art Center during public hours between September 11 – 27 and will debut at ARTBASH. Additional Screen Tests will be filmed during the event and will remain on view in RAC’s ANEX space through October 31.
ARTBASH tickets are $100 for current Art Center members and $125 for non-members. Non-members are encouraged to become a member at ARTBASH and immediately receive a $25 discount.
